1. Can my son/daughter work on a project with a friend?
No, the Interest Fair is meant to be a project that families can work on together at home. However, brothers/sisters are encouraged to enter the fair as a team!
2. Can we bring food or pets as part of the display?
Unfortunately, we cannot allow food or pets in school due to allergies. We'd encourage the use of photographs, videos, or other means to share your information.
3. Where can Interest Fair boards be purchased?
If your child chooses to use a display board, they can be purchased at:
Target
Walmart
Office Depot
and many other local stores.
4. We are having a difficult time deciding on an idea for the fair. What can we do?
Start with making an "I wonder" list of all things you always wanted to know more about. From there, narrow your topic and check our school library for those topics--we have a lot of resources there. Next, check out the Brown County Library--they are also very helpful with these types of projects. An internet search of science fair projects will get you to many sites with possible project ideas. (Your project does not have to be a science-related one, though)
5. Is any subject area okay for a project idea?
Yes, anything that is appropriate for school is just fine! Geography, crafts, history, authors, inventions, careers, hobbies, sports, etc. You name it!
6. How much help should I give my child?
First of all, make sure that your child chooses an idea that is truly interesting to him/her--that will be a motivator. If your child is very young (K-1), it is okay to type up the report OR you might want to have your child do a video/audiotape. Always be sure that your child understands all of the material in the report/display. Our Fair is a family event and families are encouraged to work together. Most importantly, have fun!
7. We need an electrical outlet for our project. How can we be sure that we will be near an outlet?
Please indicate this on your entry form. Your school's Interest Fair coordinator will ensure your child is near one.
8. Where will the projects be displayed?
Everyone is given a table space. Please keep the size of your child’s project to about 3’ x 2’ and try to use space efficiently (table space for display items, front of table to hang a poster, etc.)
9. My child wants to display something that is valuable. Is it safe to display it?
Please be very careful displaying valuables. It would be best to make some type of a case to secure the object(s) being displayed. The gym (where the fair is held) is not locked. Otherwise, pictures are a good substitute for the "real" thing.
10. We won't be able to attend the fair that night. Will my child still receive a medal?
Yes, all students who submit a project receive a medal. You can make arrangements to pick up the project and medal the next day from school.
